Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal may become the new Minister of Defense, replacing Rustem Umerov, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address.

The head of the Ukrainian state reminded that today he proposed to First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko to lead the government and renew its work based on her experience in supporting Ukrainian production and entrepreneurship.

"The colossal experience of Denys Shmyhal (the current Prime Minister – ed.) will definitely be useful in the position of Ukraine's Minister of Defense – this is exactly the area where the country's maximum resources, maximum tasks, and a great deal of responsibility are currently concentrated," Zelenskyy emphasized.

He added that he expects sufficient support for the new Cabinet configuration from the members of parliament.

According to Zelenskyy, it is also important for the government to quickly conduct an audit of all of Ukraine's agreements with its partners.

Shmyhal's new position

Just yesterday, on July 13, sources of RBC-Ukraine reported that Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal could be appointed as Ukraine's Minister of Defense.

At the same time, Yulia Svyrydenko is expected to become the new head of the Ukrainian government.

For his part, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Defense Minister Rustem Umerov may become Ukraine's ambassador to the United States.
