Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that talks with Ukraine in the UAE may last two days, Russian media reported.
"Upcoming talks in Abu Dhabi may last two days if necessary," Peskov said.
Talks in Abu Dhabi
The next round of negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine will take place on February 1 in Abu Dhabi.
According to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will not take part in these talks. The meeting will be held only between Ukraine and Russia.
Rubio also said that the talks in Abu Dhabi include discussions on security guarantees, which means the deployment of British and French troops to Ukraine. They also include support from the United States.
Today, January 29, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said that the composition of the Russian delegation at the talks in Abu Dhabi indicates a lack of serious intentions by the aggressor country to achieve peace.
On January 23–24, the first trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States took place in the UAE and received a positive assessment from the American side. Kyiv also described the first trilateral talks in the Emirates as substantive.
At the same time, a source told RBC-Ukraine that the January 23–24 meeting was introductory in nature. In fact, the sides familiarized themselves with each other's positions.
It was also reported in the media that the administration of US President Donald Trump allegedly told Ukraine that the provision of security guarantees depends on Kyiv's flexibility on territorial issues.
In addition, Reuters, citing a source, wrote that in the US view, Ukraine must first sign a peace agreement with Russia. It is noted that only after that will Kyiv receive security guarantees.
