Ukraine responds firmly to Iran's threat against a 'legitimate target'

The Iranian regime has for years supported the killing of Ukrainians by supplying drones and technology to Russia, which makes its recent threats against Ukraine and invoking the right to self-defense absurd, said Heorhii Tykhyi, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
"Iran has for years facilitated the murder of Ukrainians, directly providing the aggressor state with drones and technology for attacks on Ukraine. In this context, it is absurd for representatives of this regime to threaten Ukraine while invoking the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter," Tykhyi said.
He compared the logic to a serial killer justifying their crimes by citing the criminal code.
"The Iranian regime must be held accountable for all its crimes against the Iranian people and other nations," the ministry spokesperson added.
Background
Following the US-Israeli operation against Iran, Middle Eastern countries have struggled to intercept drone attacks, sometimes wasting expensive air defense missiles or failing to stop them entirely.
As a result, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy sent Ukraine's experts and interceptor drones to the region. Several countries later expressed interest in acquiring similar drones.
Against this backdrop, on March 14, Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, claimed that Ukraine is a "legitimate and lawful target" for Iran due to its assistance to Israel with interceptor drones.
