Ukraine is allegedly a "legitimate target" for Iran due to its support of Israel with interceptor drones, according to Ebrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Commission of the Iranian parliament, on X.
According to him, Ukraine’s actions to assist Israel turn its entire territory into a "legitimate and lawful target" for Iran under the UN Charter.
"By providing drone support to the Israeli regime, failed Ukraine has effectively become involved in the War and, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, has turned its entire territory into a legitimate target for Iran," Azizi wrote.
Ukraine's help in the Middle East
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian experts on Shahed drones would work in the Middle East.
On March 9, the president noted that experts were sent with interceptor drones to help protect US bases in Jordan.
In an interview with The New York Times, Zelenskyy said the United States requested assistance from Kyiv, and the Ukrainian team departed the very next day.
According to Western media, the US and at least one other Persian Gulf country — later confirmed to be Qatar — were negotiating to purchase Ukrainian interceptor drones to more cheaply shoot down Iranian Shaheds.
However, US President Donald Trump later declined Ukraine's help.
Additionally, the UK wants Ukrainian experts to teach Persian Gulf countries how to "bring down" Iranian drones. Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced plans to involve Ukrainian specialists, though Zelenskyy has not confirmed receiving official requests.
Recently, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that Saudi Arabia plans a major purchase of Ukrainian interceptor drones, with the contract potentially worth millions of dollars.
