More than 11,000 generators of all types have already been delivered to Ukraine as part of the European Civil Protection Mechanism initiative, states European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

Hadja Lahbib noted that, through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, 11,000 large and small generators have been delivered to Ukraine, with around 1,000 of them arriving in the past month.

"They come from both Member States and from our own strategic stocks. I am happy to say that European solidarity has remained steady and consistent throughout," she added.

According to Lahbib, EU assistance focuses on the key humanitarian needs of Ukrainians — from providing food to supporting energy resilience during winter. This includes generators.

In particular, the Odesa region has received generators necessary to restore critical infrastructure. However, due to enemy attacks and bad weather, a significant number of consumers in various areas still remain without electricity.

Overall, the EU believes that Ukraine’s energy infrastructure needs to be adapted due to outdated and vulnerable Soviet-era equipment, which was planned for reconstruction after the war anyway.
