Ukraine has had "good contacts" with the United States and hopes to return to meaningful trilateral talks in the coming weeks — this time with Europe’s participation, according to the evening address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on May 20.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian team has maintained good contacts with the American side — both on security cooperation and diplomacy with the Russians.

"If we manage in the coming weeks to return to meaningful trilateral communication and if we succeed in involving the Europeans, that will be the right result," the president said.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is ready to take the necessary steps.

"I expect our partners to be ready as well and for the Russians not to hide away," he added.

The first round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place on January 24 in Abu Dhabi. According to an informed source cited by RBC-Ukraine, the meeting ended "constructively."

A second round was held in Abu Dhabi in February, after which the sides met in Geneva. Peace talks later took a back seat due to the US-Iran conflict, while the parties’ positions on the Donetsk region remained incompatible.

On May 7, Rustem Umerov held a meeting in the United States with Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The key topics were the humanitarian track and intensifying the diplomatic process.
