Ukraine increasing control in Kursk region and replenishing exchange fund - Zelenskyy
Ukraine is increasing the size of the territories it controls in Russia's Kursk region, states President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his evening address.
According to Zelenskyy, he received a report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. Syrskyi reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to expand the territory under their control in designated areas near the Ukrainian border.
"Today, as every day, the exchange fund has been replenished. Thank you, warriors. This will help us bring many people back from Russian captivity. We must also understand that all the pressure we have transferred to Russia means they cannot apply even more pressure on our Donetsk region," Zelenskyy said.
Operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region
Since the beginning of August, fighting has been ongoing in the Kursk region. During this time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have taken control of 100 settlements in the Russian region. One of the objectives of the operation is to protect the residents of Ukraine's border regions from Russian shelling and to create a buffer zone.
According to Zelenskyy, the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region are part of a larger military-diplomatic operation.
Additionally, the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region has led Moscow to withdraw about 30,000 troops from the front lines in Ukraine and redeploy them in this direction.
