Zelenskyy: Kursk incursion is part of major military and diplomatic operation
The operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region of Russia is part of a larger military and diplomatic operation. It has several goals, says President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Indian media.
“The Kursk operation is part of a large military and diplomatic operation,” the president said.
He adds everything Ukraine is doing is aimed at forcing Russia to be ready for a just peace. The Kursk operation also prevented Russians from seizing the Sumy region and weakening Ukraine's position.
Zelenskyy said that it was very difficult for the country to seize the initiative without the help of partners for a long time.
“But we had to do it. And this is one of the stages of this plan. You saw it, it worked,” the president said.
The head of state added that he could not tell all the goals of the Kursk operation. However, when everything is over, and if Ukraine succeeds, it will become obvious what it was doing and why.
Ukraine's operation in Kursk region
On August 6, 2024, fighting broke out in the Kursk region of Russia. Russian media claimed that the Ukrainian army had broken through the border and entered Russian territory.
For about a week, the Ukrainian side did not comment on the situation. Later Zelenskyy confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had indeed entered Russian territory and replenished Ukraine's exchange fund. As of now, it is known that Ukrainian soldiers control more than 90 settlements in Russia.
Ukrainian forces destroyed three bridges in the Kursk region and practically encircled some Russian troops. According to Bild, about 3,000 Russian soldiers may be surrounded.
