Ukraine expresses disappointment with Switzerland's support for peace plan of China and Brazil
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (MFA) stated that they cannot understand the logic behind Switzerland's decision to support the initiative by China and Brazil to end the war. They emphasized that this decision does not align with Ukraine's interests and will only complicate the process of achieving peace for Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
"We cannot understand the logic of such a decision. Together with the Swiss Confederation, we organized the First Global Peace Summit on June 15-16 in Burgenstock, attended by representatives from one hundred countries and international institutions," the MFA states.
They highlighted that Switzerland participates in thematic conferences on specific points of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace formula, which aims to prepare a joint peace framework.
The MFA is convinced that all ideas, discussions, and plans for restoring peace in Ukraine must be based on two principles:
- First, nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.
- Second, these proposals must adhere to the UN Charter and respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.
The MFA considers the Ukrainian peace formula to be the only path to a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace. "There is no need to create additional formats and platforms for discussing ways to achieve peace for Ukraine," the statement emphasizes.
The MFA asserts that any initiatives that do not include a clear reference to the UN Charter and do not guarantee the complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity are unacceptable. "Such peace initiatives merely create an illusion of dialogue, while the aggressor continues its criminal actions," the MFA states.
The MFA called on Switzerland and all countries that support international law and the UN Charter to avoid participating in so-called peace initiatives that could only complicate the process of achieving comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace for Ukraine.
"Initiatives that do not recognize the fact of Russia's unprovoked armed aggression against Ukraine, equate the victim with the aggressor, and propose de-escalation at the expense of Ukraine's sovereignty and territory cannot be supported by Ukraine," the MFA emphasizes.
It is worth noting that yesterday, Swiss Foreign Ministry representative Nicole Bilo stated that Switzerland supports the peace initiative of China and Brazil regarding the end of the war in Ukraine.
"Friends of Peace"
On September 27, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that China, along with Global South countries, wants to create a platform called "Friends of Peace." This initiative will focus on the so-called political settlement of the war in Ukraine.
Fifteen countries have already joined this initiative, including Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Zambia, and Kenya.
Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the Office of the President, labeled the initiative "friends of capitulation." In his view, this initiative is based solely on the Russian concept.
