Hungary will join the Friends of Peace platform, organized by China and Brazil. The initiative aims to urgently start peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, announces Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

"The vast majority of countries, including Hungary, favour peace. But very few European countries are part of this group," said Szijjártó.

According to him, countries of the Global South claim they are "are tired of paying their price for the war thousands of kilometers away." They also believe that Western nations are only escalating the Russia-Ukraine war by making decisions that "aggravate the situation."

Szijjártó announced that Hungary will join the initiative jointly developed by China and Brazil to advance their plan for ending the war in Ukraine.

According to the Hungarian minister, 15 countries have already joined this initiative, including Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Zambia, and Kenya.

China and Brazil's initiative

Today the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that China, along with countries from the Global South, intends to create the Friends of Peace platform. The goal of the platform is to pursue a so-called political settlement of the war in Ukraine.

According to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Friends of Peace is not a closed group but an open platform that seeks dialogue rather than competition or confrontation.

"The Friends of Peace aim to provide an objective and rational voice and will play a constructive role in the political settlement of the Ukrainian issue," stated the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
