Ukraine has developed a new small missile, Nika, which is intended to be used to shoot down Russian Shahed-type jet drones. The system is currently being prepared for testing, according to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"We are getting a new small missile, the Nika, designed to counter jet-powered suicide drones. Everyone, both the Germans and us, is reacting positively. There will be tests. For now, we're seeing what the positive outcomes might be," says the head of state.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has already seen positive results from tests of the new Ukrainian-German Spys interceptor.
"It's important that today we heard about the test of our new interceptor, the German-Ukrainian Spys. The test was successful," the President notes.
How Ukraine will defend itself against Russian jet-powered drones
Separately, Zelenskyy spoke about the deployment of special turrets designed to combat jet-powered drones. According to him, more than 12 such systems have already been installed in Kyiv. 8 more are planned for deployment in the Kyiv region.
Later, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the President clarified that dozens of such turrets would be installed at various locations.
"There will be dozens of these turrets at various locations, and we will defend ourselves as best we can," Zelenskyy said.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv on October 4. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine hoped to receive Taurus long-range cruise missiles from Germany and was doing everything possible to make this happen.
In addition, the head of state reported that Ukraine was seeking ammunition for F-16s to shoot down Russian jet drones. Discussions have already taken place with Germany and Poland on this matter.
