Ukraine destroys Russia's Oreshnik missile system, Pentagon approves Tomahawk transfer to Kyiv - Friday brief

One of Russia's Oreshnik missile systems was destroyed on Russian territory by Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), the Defense Intelligence (HUR), and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The US Department of Defense approved the transfer of Tomahawk long-range missiles to Ukraine.

Ukrainian intel and security service hit one of three Russian Oreshnik launchers at testing site
During the briefing, commenting on the Oreshnik issue, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russia had carried out about three launches using this system.
Meanwhile, SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk said that one of the three Oreshnik systems was successfully destroyed at the Kapustin Yar testing site.
"We haven't publicly mentioned this before, but briefly — one of the three Oreshnik systems was successfully destroyed on their (Russian - ed.) territory, at Kapustin Yar, by the HUR, SBU, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was a very successful operation, and quite some time has passed since then," he said.
Pentagon gives green light to send Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but there's a catch – CNN
The Pentagon has approved the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. However, deliveries will not begin until President Donald Trump makes the final decision.
According to the outlet's sources, the Joint Staff informed the White House that supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would not negatively affect US stockpiles. This assessment was made well before Trump’s October 17 meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Ukraine strikes Russia's Oryol power plant and Novobryansk substation with Neptune missiles
Ukrainian troops carried out missile strikes on the Oryol thermal power plant and the Novobryansk substation. Neptune missiles were used in the attack.
As the Navy explained, these facilities supplied electricity to the region's military enterprises.
"Putting them out of operation is a serious blow to the occupiers' logistics," the military added.
Ukrainian intelligence counterattacks Russian forces near Pokrovsk to restore supply routes – Sources
Soldiers from Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR) are conducting a counteroffensive operation near Pokrovsk, according to The Economist correspondent Oliver Carroll.
He also shared videos showing Ukrainian intelligence troops being deployed from helicopters.
According to the journalist, these operations are taking place in areas that Russia claims to control.
