Ukraine has begun auditing Energoatom after a corruption scheme was uncovered within the company. The first results are expected in December, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
Svyrydenko said she discussed conducting state financial oversight of energy sector state enterprises with the head of the State Audit Service, Alla Basalaieva.
"The audit of Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company has already begun and is a top priority. The State Audit Service will check the activities of the company’s management, 10 of its branches, including three nuclear power plants, for 2023–2025. We agreed that interim results should be ready by December," the Prime Minister said.
She added that audit materials will be sent to law enforcement and anti-corruption authorities for appropriate action.
Preparations have also begun for audits at other enterprises, including LLC "Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine," PJSC "Centrenergo," and JSC "Ukrgazvydobuvannia."
"The government expects regular monthly reports on the progress of all audits throughout the period. We will act quickly if any violations are found. We must ensure full transparency of state enterprises," Svyrydenko said.
Corruption scandal at the Energoatom company
Earlier, NABU uncovered a corruption scheme at Energoatom. The company's contractors were reportedly forced to pay kickbacks to maintain their status as suppliers and for other benefits.
As a result, the government decided to dissolve Energoatom's supervisory board.
Svyrydenko also announced inspections of other major state companies.
Additionally, Energoatom Vice President Jakob Hartmut has been suspended from his position.
