Ukraine and US discuss date and location for talks – White House

Ukraine and the US are discussing the date and location for talks on ending the war. Negotiations are also underway regarding the negotiation team, stated US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Reuters reports.
Waltz stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's "letter" was a "good, positive first step" (referring to Zelenskyy's post on X, where he said Ukraine was ready for talks and proposed initial steps to end the war - ed.).
According to Waltz, officials are discussing the date, location, and negotiation team that would work toward ending the war.

"We have taken a step back and are pausing, reviewing all aspects of this relationship," Waltz said.
He added that he had just spoken with Ukraine's national security advisor on the phone.
"We are having good talks on a location for the next round of negotiations," Waltz said.
"We're already talking about confidence-building measures that we'll then take to the Russians and test that side," the US National Security Advisor stated.
At the same time, the White House representative did not specify what these "confidence-building measures" would entail.
Waltz also noted that US President Donald Trump would consider restoring aid to Ukraine if peace talks are organized and confidence-building measures are implemented.
"I think if we can nail down these negotiations and move towards these negotiations, and in fact, put some confidence-building measures on the table, then the president will take a hard look at lifting this pause," he said.
It is worth noting that the "Ukrainian national security advisor" whom Waltz spoke with was Andriy Yermak. This was clarified to journalists by Ukrainian presidential communications advisor Dmytro Lytvyn.
Tensions between the US and Ukraine
Last Friday, February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington. During negotiations with US President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance at the White House, a dispute arose over the war and Ukraine’s alleged ingratitude.
Following the confrontation, Zelenskyy left the White House early. Trump, in turn, accused Zelenskyy of not being ready for peace. As a result, a minerals deal between Ukraine and the US was not signed.
The White House blamed Zelenskyy for escalating the conflict, while Western media reported that Trump allegedly wanted the Ukrainian President to fix the situation.
After that, the US suspended arms deliveries to Ukraine, as well as the sharing of intelligence data.
The day before, President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine wants to sit down at the negotiating table. He outlined the first possible steps toward resolving the war - prisoner releases, and a ceasefire in the air and at sea.
