Ukraine and Russia ready for talks, US envoy says
Ukraine and Russia are ready to hold talks, stated US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Fox News.
Kellogg was asked whether the time has come for peace talks, as it seems that both sides of the war are close to exhaustion.
"Absolutely, I think both sides are ready," said Keith Kellogg.
He compared the war to a battle in a cage, where both fighters are ready to surrender and a referee is needed to separate them.
"I think that President Donald J. Trump can do that," Special Envoy added.
He noted that the current situation is characterized by a war of attrition, where the ratio of losses between Ukraine and Russia is approximately 1 to 5.
"After 1,000 days of war with 350,000 Russians dead, with 150,000 Ukrainians dead, with numbers like that, both sides say: 'OK, maybe this is time we need to step back'," said Kellogg.
He expressed belief that President Trump could end the war.
Possible Russia-Ukraine talks
Recently, Western discussions have increasingly raised the possibility of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, particularly following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also recently suggested there is a likelihood of peace talks between the sides this winter.
Trump himself supports the idea of ending hostilities as soon as possible and moving toward dialogue. He believes Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is inclined toward achieving a peaceful agreement with Russia.
