Newly elected US president Donald Trump called for an "immediate ceasefire" in Ukraine. In his post on the social network Truth Social also emphasized the need to begin negotiations regarding the war.

Trump commented on the fall of Bashar Assad's regime in Syria and the dictator's escape. He stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was not interested in preserving Assad's power.

"There was no reason for Russia to be there at all. They had lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where some 600,000 Russian soldiers lie wounded or dead in a war that should never have started and could go on forever," Trump wrote.

The elected US president claims that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ukraine are allegedly open to an agreement to end the war.

Trump called for an "immediate ceasefire" and negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

"Too many lives have been needlessly lost, too many families have been destroyed, and if this continues, it could turn into something much bigger and much worse. I know Vladimir well. This is his time to act. China can help," he emphasized.

Meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump

On Saturday, December 7, the ceremonial reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris took place after a fire in 2019. For this event, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy both traveled to France.

A trilateral meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump, and Emmanuel Macron was held at the Élysée Palace. Later, the Ukrainian president stated that the meeting was "good and productive" and that a force-based peace is possible.

Zelenskyy revealed that during the meeting with Trump, they discussed ways to support Ukraine. The head of state emphasized that any agreement without Ukraine would be impossible.
