Trump plans Russia sanctions after 10-day deadline, but it’s not that simple

US President Donald Trump stated that he will impose sanctions against Russia, although he is uncertain whether they will have any real effect, according to his statement while speaking with journalists.
“Russia... I find this disgusting, what they're doing. I think it’s disgusting. This is Biden’s war. It’s not my war, but I’ve said: if I get in, I'll try and get the thing stopped. But I think what Russia is doing is very sad,” Trump said.
He also mentioned that he feels sorry that more Russians are dying than Ukrainians, but emphasized that the US should not be involved in this war.
“And by the way, I made a deal with NATO where NATO pays us for everything that we send. Yeah, we're going to put sanctions. I don't know that sanctions bother him. You know, they they know about sanctions. I know better than anybody about sanctions and tariffs and everything else. I don't know if that has any effect, but we're going to do it,” Trump said.
Trump’s ultimatum for Putin
Trump had earlier given Russian President Vladimir Putin a 50-day deadline to end the war against Ukraine.
However, on July 29, Trump shortened the deadline for a peace agreement to just 10 days due to the lack of progress from Russia. According to him, if Russia refuses to end the war, it will face not only secondary tariffs on the export of goods and services to the US, but also secondary sanctions.
In response, Kremlin officials are reportedly trying to persuade the US president to drop the 10-day deadline for ending the war in Ukraine and to normalize relations with Moscow.
Moreover, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia has developed a certain immunity to sanctions and is prepared for new economic restrictions.
