Ukraine and Poland sign memorandum on arms production
On February 3, the Ukrainian Defense Industry and the Polish Armaments Group signed a memorandum outlining the framework agreements on defense cooperation between the countries, according to the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine.
The cooperation is focused on:
- production of ammunition;
- maintenance of armored vehicles and artillery;
- strengthening the air defense sector.
In particular, it provides for the development of financial mechanisms to attract instruments and funds provided for by the European Defense Strategy and the European Defense Industrial Program.
The memorandum was signed in the presence of Herman Smetanin, Head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, and Cezary Tomczyk, State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Poland.
“Bilateral talks were also held, which were attended by representatives of defense companies, in addition to government officials from both countries and the Polish Embassy. They discussed the progress of joint projects and outlined promising areas of cooperation, in particular, in the field of localization of Polish defense production in Ukraine, creation of joint ventures, and production of explosives,” the Ministry adds.
Poland's support for Ukraine
Poland has been one of Ukraine's key allies since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, providing military, humanitarian, and political support. Warsaw has provided Kyiv with a significant amount of weapons, including tanks, artillery, armored vehicles, and ammunition, and has also provided training for the Ukrainian military. Poland actively supported sanctions pressure on Russia, lobbied for Ukraine's interests at the international level, and promoted its European integration aspirations.
In January, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the preparation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine.
