Today, Ukraine and Greece signed an agreement for the rapid supply of natural gas to Ukraine. The deal is set for the first quarter of 2026, reports the Greek natural gas operator DEPA.
The company signed a Letter of Intent with Naftogaz of Ukraine for supplying natural gas to the Ukrainian market during the winter period, from December 2025 to March 2026.
"Under the framework of the prospective agreement, LNG volumes originating from the United States are expected to be transported through 'Route 1', offered jointly by the gas transmission system operators (TSOs) of Greece (DESFA), Bulgaria (Bulgartransgaz), Romania (Transgaz), Moldova (VestMoldTransgaz), and Ukraine (GTSOU)," DEPA said.
The press release also noted that the agreement represents a significant step in strengthening regional energy cooperation and Europe's energy security.
Greece to supply gas to Ukraine
Earlier today, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a press conference. They announced that Ukraine and Greece had agreed to create a new energy route, delivering gas via a vertical energy corridor from Alexandroupolis in Greece to Odesa.
"This is a decisive contribution to the stability and security of our and your region. The project is made possible thanks to Greece's infrastructure and strategic partnerships," Mitsotakis said.
Zelenskyy confirmed that the first deliveries from Greece to Ukraine will begin in January 2026.
