Ukraine and Greece have agreed to create a new energy route that will supply gas to Ukraine via a vertical energy corridor from the Greek port of Alexandroupolis to Odesa.

This was reported during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The Greek prime minister emphasized that the new route will serve as a "secure energy artery" from south to north, giving Ukraine access to reliable energy sources. Greece is already a key hub for delivering US liquefied natural gas to Central and Eastern Europe, and the project will strengthen energy security across the region.

"This is a decisive contribution to the stability and security of our and your region. The project is made possible thanks to Greece's infrastructure and strategic partnerships," Mitsotakis said.

Gas from Alexandroupolis will reach Odesa via Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova.

President Zelenskyy confirmed that the first gas supplies to Ukraine through Greece will begin in January 2026. He noted that the agreement is part of a larger energy package prepared to cover Ukraine’s winter needs and offset losses from domestic production caused by Russian attacks.

"This is an important part of our energy security. The first deliveries will be implemented in the first quarter. There are also long-term projects, which our energy companies have discussed," Zelenskyy said.

The president also expressed gratitude to Greece and the US for their key role in providing energy resources to Ukraine.

"We are grateful to American companies, the US Department of Energy, and President Donald Trump for the opportunity to receive energy from the United States through Greek infrastructure," he said.

The creation of this new gas corridor is expected to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience amid Russian aggression and serve as a crucial element of transatlantic cooperation.
