Germany intends to join the Ukrainian Brave1 platform and support the development of drones with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers, states German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during a press conference with Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov

Germany to join the Brave1 platform

Pistorius said that the sides have already signed a Letter of Intent, which provides for Germany’s participation in the Ukrainian Brave1 platform.

According to him, this issue had previously been discussed during a meeting in Berlin, as well as in talks with representatives of the industry and the financial sector.

The minister noted that developers of advanced technologies will be able to receive funding through the platform. This will make it possible to accelerate the introduction of innovations on the battlefield and to quickly obtain feedback on their effectiveness.

Focus on drone technologies

The German defense minister stressed that Ukraine is successfully resisting Russian attacks, in particular thanks to new unmanned systems units.

According to him, such technologies have repeatedly caused difficulties for Russian forces and helped reclaim territories.

He added that Germany is already providing financial support for such initiatives and intends to continue assisting the development of unmanned systems, which are becoming increasingly important in modern warfare.

Drones with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers

Boris Pistorius also stated that German and Ukrainian companies are planning to create joint ventures to develop and produce drones of various ranges — from less than 100 kilometers to as far as 1,500 kilometers.

According to him, long-range unmanned systems are important for striking Russian military infrastructure. In addition, the mass use of such systems can overwhelm the adversary’s air defense.

The minister emphasized that this direction is also actively being developed within NATO.

He also noted that Germany is considering involving German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in potential negotiations on behalf of the European Union regarding a possible end to the war in Ukraine.

At the same time, amid concerns about Europe’s insufficient deterrence capabilities against Russia, Germany has resumed talks with the United States about purchasing Tomahawk cruise missiles.
