Kyiv and Europe should not be excluded from future peace talks on ending Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha says in an interview with Le Monde.

“It is in our interest to work together to end the war in 2025. We don't just want the fighting to stop. We cannot discuss Ukraine without Ukraine or Europe without Europe,” he explained.

He noted that Ukraine's membership in NATO remains the most reliable and affordable way for the Alliance to guarantee its security. At the same time, during the negotiations to end the war, there should be no compromises that would threaten Ukraine's territorial integrity or sovereignty.

Trump's calls to Putin and Zelenskyy

On December 12, US President Donald Trump and Russia's Vladimir Putin held telephone conversations. After this conversation, the head of the White House also held talks with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said that it was unlikely that Ukraine would return to the 2014 borders.

During his visit to Ukraine, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that the head of the White House wants the war to end as soon as possible. In addition, a future agreement aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States was announced.

Commenting on Trump's conversation with Putin, North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte suggested that it could indicate the start of negotiations on Ukraine.
