On the sidelines of the DFNC3 International Forum of Defence Industries, a statement of intent on the LYRA program — a partnership in battlefield technologies — was signed between the State Secretary for Defense of the United Kingdom and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

This was reported by Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal.

According to Shmyhal, the document records the parties’ intention to jointly develop and scale defense technologies and provides for the creation of a working group to coordinate joint projects under the LYRA program.

The minister explained that LYRA’s objective is to strengthen the defense capabilities of both countries by combining Ukrainian and British defense-industrial and scientific potential. This will enable joint development, modernization, and the scaling up of production of the necessary weapons systems.

In addition, Shmyhal reported that, following the forum, a project agreement was signed on joint artillery production with the United Kingdom.

Britain and Ukraine

According to the UK minister of the Armed Forces, the Kingdom plans to implement other projects with Ukraine as well, including bomb production.

"We start with drones for obvious reasons. But overall, Ukraine is an important partner for us in creating the technologies needed to deter Russia and rearm Europe," he added.

Bloomberg recalls that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently urged partners to help finance weapons production, create joint ventures, or make direct purchases for the Ukrainian armed forces.

As reported, Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal, recently pledged to provide 1,000 interceptor drones per day to counter Russian attacks.

At the same time, Britain announced it was strengthening its air defense systems by signing a large contract for the supply of missile systems.
