The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a new large-scale military aid package, including domestically produced drones, air defense missiles, and radars, this was announced by UK Defense Secretary Dan Jarvis at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
Details of the £852 million package
According to the British Secretary, the new funding was secured through the use of confiscated Russian assets.
The total value of the weapons package is £852 million, provided through a special loan mechanism.
The assistance includes:
- 150,000 Ukrainian-made drones
- 350 missiles for air defense systems
- Modern radars for air protection.
Jarvis said that there is currently a limited window of opportunity, noting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have operational momentum, are fighting with exceptional dedication, and depend on continued support.
Defense aid and the Ukraine Defense Contact Group
The Ukraine Defense Contact Group coordinates the provision of military assistance to counter Russian aggression.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has reached an impasse in the war against Ukraine, as the invasion has caused enormous damage and losses to his own military, and the Kremlin is increasingly seeing negative consequences for itself.
Ahead of the next meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov outlined Ukraine’s key defense priorities, including strengthening air defense, long-range artillery, and drone procurement. In particular, a special focus is placed on anti-ballistic protection due to ongoing mass attacks by Russia.
In addition, following previous meetings, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summarized the outcomes of the previous Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, noting that Ukraine received confirmed funding for air defense, logistics, and drones from several European countries, including Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
