The UK has shared details about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s upcoming visit to London, scheduled for December 8. The agenda is also roughly known, according to Bloomberg.
UK Minister for the Cabinet Office, Pat McFadden, stated that the guiding principle of the talks will be to ensure that Ukraine has the ability to determine its own future.
“This is a really pivotal moment. Everybody wants the war to come to an end, but they want it to come to an end in a way that gives Ukraine that freedom of choice in the future,” he said.
McFadden also stated that this means a fair end to the war, as well as security guarantees for Ukraine in the future.
“That means a just end to the war, but also security guarantees for Ukraine in the future and not a completely toothless organization which is unable to decide its future,” he added.
Bloomberg also reported that European supporters of Ukraine hope that if they can sustain support for Kyiv through the winter, Russia’s economic problems will worsen next year and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will lose leverage in negotiations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new diplomatic week in Europe, stating that consultations with European leaders are planned.
The focus will be primarily on security issues, support for Ukraine’s resilience, and aid packages for defense.
