UK's Starmer lays down condition for sending British troops to Ukraine

The UK has no plans to deploy its troops to Ukraine without security guarantees from the United States. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that American air cover is a key condition.
"I’ve always been clear that there must be a US element to this (air cover - Ed.)," Starmer stressed in response to a question about whether London is ready to send British troops to Ukraine as part of a post-war peacekeeping mission without American involvement.
He noted that he envisions future cooperation strictly in the context of joint allied actions.
"I have no reason to believe that the US and the UK can't act together as we've done historically for many, many years," the Prime Minister said.
Deployment of military contingent to Ukraine
In early April, Kyiv hosted a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing — an alliance of countries that pledged to assist Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The coalition was announced by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on March 2, 2025.
Following the summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that French and British troops would be among the first to arrive in Ukraine. According to him, these countries are the main representatives of the European continent.
