UK provides Ukraine with approximately $4.5 billion for arms procurement
The United Kingdom has provided Ukraine with £3.5 billion (approximately $4.5 billion) for the procurement of modern military equipment from British manufacturers, according the UK government website.
The country’s trade mission, which included representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Department for Business and Trade, and the defense trade association ADS, visited Ukraine to discuss further cooperation with the Ukrainian government and industry representatives.
This mission is a continuation of an agreement signed in July 2024, allowing Ukraine to spend £3.5 billion (about $4.5 billion) on purchasing modern military equipment from British producers.
The British mission was led by Luke Pollard, Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defense. He stated that the country continuously supports Ukraine, not only by providing military equipment but also by developing cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry. This helps attract investment and strengthen the capabilities of both nations.
One of the key agreements from this mission was to understand Ukraine’s needs for comprehensive armaments and ground systems. This served as a signal to the British defense industry, which is already preparing to fulfill future orders.
In addition, the UK Ministry of Defense has signed several important contracts with British companies. Among these is an agreement with Thales for the supply of missiles for air defense and with Sheffield Forgemasters for the production of forgings for artillery guns.
Additionally, the intergovernmental Task Force HIRST team is working to stimulate industrial production and expand international cooperation with Ukrainian companies.
UK assistance to Ukraine
On September 11, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth over $780 million.
Earlier, on July 7, the UK announced military assistance to Ukraine, which included high-precision Brimstone missiles, munitions, and artillery guns.
Ukraine and the UK also signed an agreement to develop defense capabilities, which includes the supply, repair, and production of weapons.
Recently, it was revealed that the UK would deliver a total of 16 AS90 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine. Some of the units have already been delivered.
