The United Kingdom has announced the introduction of the largest new sanctions package against Russia's military-industrial complex. This move strengthens London's restrictions on the supply of critical equipment necessary for the Kremlin to conduct its war in Ukraine, according to the UK government's press service.

Sanctions have been imposed on suppliers supporting Russia's military production, as well as pro-Kremlin mercenary groups operating in sub-Saharan Africa, and a GRU (Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate) agent involved in the Novichok nerve agent attack in Salisbury. These measures are specifically aimed at restricting the supply of products to Russia's armed forces, including machines, microelectronics, and drones.

The sanctions also extend to organizations from China, Türkiye, and Central Asian countries that support Russia's military needs by supplying equipment for military technology production.

The announcement of sanctions came ahead of the European Political Community summit in Budapest, where UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to discuss measures against Russian destabilizing activities in Europe and express support for Ukraine.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that the new measures aim to undermine Russia's foreign policy in Africa and limit the supply of critical equipment for Putin's military machine.

These sanctions continue the UK's mission to combat Russian malicious activities, which in recent months have included actions against Russia's shadow fleet, the use of banned chemical weapons, and pro-Kremlin media spreading disinformation.

In October, the UK imposed sanctions on Russia's Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Protection Forces and their head, Igor Kirillov, particularly in response to the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine.

At the end of September, the UK issued its first fine for violating sanctions against Russia.
