UK Defense Secretary on possible Trump-Putin call: 'Good sign' for Ukraine
A potential phone call between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin would be a good sign for Ukraine. Such a call could indicate that Washington will continue to support Ukraine, stated UK Defense Secretary John Healey, according to Sky News.
Speaking in the UK House of Commons, UK Defense Secretary John Healey said that if rumors of a conversation between Trump and Putin are true, it would be a "very good first step and an early sign" that the Trump administration will support Ukraine.
Healey expressed his expectation that Trump will "recognize it's in America's interests."
"If countries like Russia are able to redraw international boundaries by force, that sends a signal that undermines the security of all nations," Healey emphasized.
Rumors of a conversation between Trump and Putin
On November 10, The Washington Post, citing a source, reported that Donald Trump had already held talks with Vladimir Putin, allegedly on Thursday, November 7.
According to the report, Trump supposedly expressed interest in continuing contact to find a way to resolve the war in Ukraine.
However, on November 11, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied that any such phone conversation took place, adding that there are no plans for such a call.
