Kremlin says Trump and Putin have not spoken yet
The Kremlin has denied reports that US President-elect Donald Trump recently spoke with Vladimir Putin, stating that there are currently no concrete plans for any talks, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
"This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it's just false information," Peskov told journalists, adding, "There was no conversation."
According to Peskov, this is allegedly "the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications."
Peskov informed reporters that there are "no concrete plans" for contact between Putin and Trump at this time, which Putin himself stated at a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi.
Previously, The Washington Post reported that Putin and Trump spoke on November 7, discussing the aim of peace in Europe. According to the newspaper, Trump advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of the significant US military presence in Europe.
It was reported that Kyiv was informed of the call and did not oppose it taking place. However, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi told Reuters that this information was not true and that the Ukrainian side was unaware of the call.
Reuters also reported on this call, stating that Trump spoke with Putin and advised him against escalating the war in Ukraine.
During the campaign, Trump had said that after his victory, he would speak with both Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reach a deal within 24 hours.
Trump held a phone conversation with Zelenskyy the day after his victory, November 6.
