UK company to open another artillery factory to help Ukraine
A British artillery company is to open a new howitzer factory. This step is aimed at increasing support for Ukraine, according to The Telegraph.
The agency reported that the British company BAE Systems will open a £25 million artillery plant in Sheffield as part of efforts to support Ukrainian forces in the battle against Russia.
The company said on Friday that the plant will start producing M777 towed howitzers next year, creating 50 skilled jobs locally.
The Telegraph noted that this effectively reverses the company's previously announced decision to wind down production of the weapon in the UK in early 2023.
Ukraine has already received several guns from the US, Canada, and Australia, but many of them are now in need of upgrades or repairs.
The company said that the new Sheffield plant will also support the UK government's commitment to maintaining and restoring the UK's vital artillery capabilities.
Last year, BAE Systems, a multinational company headquartered in London, announced that it would open a representative office in Ukraine. The company is also localizing its production in Ukraine.
