U.S. delivered another series of strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen
The United States carried out another series of strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen on the night of January 18, according to Reuters.
It is claimed that anonymous U.S. officials revealed details of the strikes on Houthi targets. Details about the targets or the number of missiles launched have not been reported at this time.
On the eve of this, the U.S. military forces stated that a drone launched from areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen struck the American ship Genco Picardy in the Gulf of Aden.
According to the U.S. Central Command, the ship Genco Picardy is a "dry bulk carrier" flying the flag of the Marshall Islands, owned and operated by the United States. It suffered damage as a result of the strike.
What preceded
Since November of last year, Yemeni Houthi rebels have periodically attacked merchant ships in the Red Sea using drones, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles. The initial attacks occurred after the start of Israel's war against Hamas.
In response, the United States and Britain launched missile strikes on targets in Yemen associated with the Houthis. Explosions were reported across the country. Despite this, the Houthis continued to target ships near the Yemeni coast. For instance, on January 15, they struck an American vessel.
The United States and Britain have repeatedly warned that if Houthi attacks persist, strikes on their military targets will continue. On January 17, the United States once again designated the Houthis as a global terrorist organization.
