In Poland, on the evening of Monday, September 15, a drone was flying over government buildings. It was shot down, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported this on Twitter (X).

"The State Protection Service has just neutralized a drone that was flying over government buildings (Parkowa) and the Belvedere," Tusk wrote.

In addition, he said, two Belarusian citizens were detained. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

Drone attack on Poland

On the night of September 10, around 20 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, most of them from Belarus. Polish air defense forces managed to shoot down four of the drones.

Polish authorities found debris from 16 Russian drones that had entered the country during the attack. One drone fell on the territory of a military base. Wreckage from the downed drones was found in 11 settlements across Poland.

Following the Russian attack, NATO invoked Article 4, allowing member states to discuss the situation with allies in the North Atlantic Council.

According to media reports, Russia may have attempted to target a NATO base on Polish territory. Some of the Russian drones were heading in that direction.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the Alliance’s response to the incident in Poland "very successful." He emphasized that the past night demonstrated NATO’s readiness to defend every inch of its territory, including its airspace.

Meanwhile, on September 13, NATO launched Operation Eastern Sentry in Poland to strengthen the defense of Europe’s eastern flank in response to the Russian drones’ intrusion into Polish airspace.
