Tusk allowes for transfer of 'certain equipment' to Ukraine that it is waiting for
Poland may complete preparations for the transfer of "certain equipment" requested by Kyiv. However, there are conditions for this, according to a statement by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to him, during the talks with Zelenskyy, the possibility of military aid to Ukraine from Poland was discussed, but a "quick decision from NATO partners" is needed.
"Perhaps we will be able to complete our preparations for the transfer of certain equipment to Ukraine, which Ukraine is expecting. But we need to finalize certain actions from some NATO allies," the Prime Minister said.
Tusk added that he hopes Poland will soon be able to announce such a decision to support Ukraine.
MiG-29 for Ukraine
Tusk did not specify what kind of equipment he was referring to. However, it is possible that he meant the delivery of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
Back in the summer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs Polish MiGs.
At the end of October, the head of state mentioned that Ukraine had reached an agreement with NATO to send Alliance aircraft to Poland. However, Warsaw has still not decided to transfer its MiG-29s to Ukrainian defenders.
For his part, Polish President Andrzej Duda noted that Poland could discuss transferring MiGs to Ukraine, but for this, NATO countries would need to relocate their aircraft to Polish airbases.
