Russia could face "devastating" consequences if it decides to continue the war, stated US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists, BBC reports.

"There are things you can do that wouldn't be pleasant in a financial sense. I can do things financially. It would be very bad for Russia. I don't want to do that, because I want to get peace," Trump told reporters.

He noted that everyone is now approaching the point where something could be done regarding the war in Ukraine. At the same time, he believes that the Ukrainian side, once "difficult," has changed its mindset.

"I had somebody (Zelensky - ed.) that didn't seem to want peace. Now he's agreed to peace. So we'll see," he said.

Ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia

On Tuesday, March 11, during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, the US proposed implementing a ceasefire across all territories. Ukraine agreed to the proposal.

However, the response from Russia regarding the ceasefire is still awaited. It is known that the US will contact Russia regarding the ceasefire today, March 12.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine agreed to the idea of a 30-day ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Trump announced that the US delegation is already on its way to Russia.

"We have people going to Russia right now... Hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia. If we do, I think that would be 80% of the way to getting this horrible blood bath to end," Trump stated.
