US President Donald Trump stated that if the ceasefire with Iran ends on Tuesday, April 21, "then lots of bombs start going off," PBS reports.
The US president’s statement came as the US delegation prepares for the next round of peace talks with Iran.
"Then lots of bombs start going off," Trump replied when asked what would happen if the ceasefire ended tomorrow evening.
Talks in Islamabad
The US president added that Iranian representatives must be present at the talks in Islamabad. He noted that Washington had agreed on this with Tehran.
"I mean, they're supposed to be there. We agreed to be there, although they say we didn't. But no, it was set up. And we'll see whether or not it's there. If they're not there, that's fine too," Trump said.
According to the US president, the goal of the negotiations is for Iran to renounce nuclear weapons.
"We're not negotiating anything other than the fact that they will not have a nuclear weapon. And that's pretty basic when you get right down to it. So you know, that's it," he emphasized.
Negotiations between the US and Iran
Iran recently walked out of the second round of negotiations with the US. The Iranian delegation did not show up for the meeting, citing Washington’s excessive demands and the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
A day earlier, Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Tehran, demanding the adoption of a new agreement, promising to destroy the country’s critical infrastructure in the event of refusal. He specified that he was giving Iran until the conclusion of the talks in Pakistan.
Tehran, in turn, stated that it does not recognize any ultimatums from Washington and will not transfer its enriched uranium to the United States or any other country.
