Trump to decide next steps following Witkoff's meeting with Putin, Waltz

US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that President of the United States Donald Trump would make further decisions after assessing the results of the meeting between Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Waltz, the Trump administration has a "cautious optimism" following a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Putin’s statements regarding the conditions for a 30-day ceasefire on the front lines. He added that Trump will make further decisions after Witkoff briefs him on the results of negotiations in Russia.
"I've spoken with my counterpart, Special Envoy Witkoff, who is out there (in Moscow - ed.), and he is bringing things to us to evaluate and for President Trump to make decisions on the next steps… Of course, both sides are going to have their demands, and of course, both sides are going to have some compromises," Waltz said.
30-day ceasefire in Ukraine
Negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Saudi Arabia on March 11. During the meeting, Washington proposed a 30-day ceasefire along the front lines.
Additionally, on March 13, an American delegation led by Witkoff arrived in Moscow. Following the negotiations, Putin stated that he allegedly "supports" the US proposal for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia for 30 days but is concerned about certain nuances.
Trump, for his part, expressed hope that Russia would "do the right thing."
