US President Donald Trump hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will do the right thing regarding a ceasefire with Ukraine, Sky News reports.

According to him, US Special Representative for Middle East Affairs Steve Witkoff is holding serious negotiations in Russia today and is expected to meet with Putin.

"Hopefully, Russia will do the right thing," Trump said, reiterating that he would like to see a ceasefire from Russia.

Trump also believes that Putin's statement on a ceasefire was incomplete. He said that Putin made a promising statement but insisted that it was not comprehensive and confirmed that he is ready to discuss a ceasefire proposal with him.

30-day ceasefire in Ukraine

Recently, negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia between Ukrainian and US delegations, during which Washington proposed implementing a 30-day ceasefire along the front line, an initiative supported by Kyiv.

Today, a US delegation arrived in Russia to discuss the matter. However, Putin's aide, Yuri Ushakov, stated that Moscow is not interested in temporary ceasefires with Ukraine. Meanwhile, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, emphasized that the final decision rests with Putin himself.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia has yet to provide a substantive response to the 30-day ceasefire proposal. Kyiv is counting on US pressure to force Moscow to end the war.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he agrees with the US idea of a ceasefire. However, he noted that there are certain nuances to be addressed.
