One of the parks in Chernihiv has been renamed in honor of US President Donald Trump, reports city councilor Maryna Semenenko on Facebook.
What is known about the park renaming in Chernihiv
On October 16, Maryna Semenenko, head of the "European Solidarity" faction in the Chernihiv City Council, announced that "there is now a Trump Park in Chernihiv."
The councilor also published her formal request to include this issue (as an additional point) on the agenda of the 46th (extraordinary) session of the Chernihiv City Council.
According to the explanatory note for the city council's draft resolution, Trump Park will be the new name for Kazka Park in the Sherstianka neighborhood.
The document states that Donald Trump is a "well-known global political figure who consistently advocates for the peaceful resolution of prolonged international conflicts, the protection of national interests, and stability in the global security space."
"The renaming of the park is not only symbolic," but is "aimed at drawing international attention to the heroic resistance and difficult reconstruction of Chernihiv" following armed aggression.
"The residents of Chernihiv sincerely hope that during new international challenges, he (Trump) will be able to contribute to ending another major war and achieving lasting peace. We believe that for this, Donald Trump could rightfully be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," the document emphasizes.
Semenenko also published the signatures collected in support of the decision.
The Chernihiv City Council's decision on the park renaming, dated October 16, 2025, states that it comes into force upon publication.
"In accordance with Article 26 of the Law of Ukraine 'On Local Self-Government in Ukraine,' to honor outstanding contemporary political leaders and draw international attention to the reconstruction of the hero city Chernihiv, it is proposed to rename Kazka Park in the Sherstianka neighborhood as Trump Park," the document states.

"The next step is to reach out to the US president and his family. We will invite them to the hero city," Semenenko emphasized.

Later, the councilor published another post noting that "all-Ukrainian Telegram channels reacted positively to the news about Trump Park in Chernihiv," as did "national media outlets."
"We'll see how the British news agency Reuters covers it (I provided a comment). There's a good chance that by evening, the news will reach the US president in Washington! We hope for communication," Semenenko added.
