The United States will be paid for protecting the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump made the announcement, according to Clash Report.
According to Trump, Washington should be "reimbursed for that" because, he argued, other countries are very wealthy and they are on our side.
"We guarded the strait for 50 years, and we never got paid for it. We guarded it for nothing, but now we will make money," the US leader said.
Trump stressed that the United States would protect the strait and "be paid a lot of money for it." He added that he wants reimbursement for the costs of "doing all of this while putting our people in danger."
The US president also said that most of Iran's weapons and air defense systems had been destroyed. He further claimed that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement that Iran later violated.
"They always break it. We've had 10 deals with these people. So we're just going to hit them very hard," Trump said.
As reported earlier, Iran announced the full closure of the Strait of Hormuz overnight on July 12 after several vessels allegedly attempted to use an unauthorized route.
During the incident, Iranian forces attacked a container ship and forced it to stop. In response, the United States carried out strikes on Iranian targets. At the same time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the day before that the Strait of Hormuz remained open to shipping.
According to Axios, the White House is preparing for a prolonged confrontation with Iran. The outlet reported that the US administration is considering scenarios involving days or even weeks of exchanges of strikes over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
