The US leader says NATO countries allegedly want to help clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz, adding that some are already sending minesweepers.
In a Fox News broadcast, Donald Trump said he was very disappointed in NATO and its unwillingness to join, stating that now NATO countries want to come and help clear the strait. He added that it would not take long, the waterway would be cleared, and they would be able to use it.
According to President Trump, the UK will join a coalition of countries working to clear the strait of mines. However, London has not yet confirmed this.
He said that, as he understood, the UK and several other countries are sending minesweepers there.
Trump also added that the United States will impose a full naval blockade on Iran, similar to what was done with Venezuela, and Washington will not allow Tehran to profit from oil sales, selling it to whoever it prefers while restricting others.
In addition, the American leader made a series of other statements:
- NATO relations need to be reviewed because the alliance did not support the United States
- Iran has no leverage. Tehran has not left the negotiating table, and Trump believes it will return and give the United States everything it wants
- He told officials he does not want 90% of demands or 95%, he wants 100% compliance
- Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons
- He could destroy Iran in a single day
- The United States is ready to continue strikes on Iran if Tehran does not stop attempts to block the Strait of Hormuz
- The United States will impose a 50% tariff on China or any other country caught supplying military equipment to Iran.
US–Iran talks failed
Earlier, on the morning of April 12, after dozens of hours of talks, US Vice President JD Vance said Washington and Tehran had still failed to reach an agreement to end the war, with the US delegation returning home without a deal.
Just hours earlier, Donald Trump posted on social media that talks in Pakistan between the United States and Iran had gone well and that many issues had been agreed upon, but Iran's refusal to abandon its nuclear ambitions overturned the progress.
Trump also said that, following the failure of negotiations, the US Navy is beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, no ship will be allowed to enter or leave, and the United States will prevent Iran from earning revenue as Tehran has recently begun charging fees.
