In an interview with Fox News, US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg believes that the chances of Ukraine returning nuclear weapons are minimal.

Background

Recently, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine needs to have its defense while it continues to join NATO. This can be either nuclear weapons or more missiles.

Zelenskyy stated earlier that if the process dragged on for years or decades, not because of them but because of their partners, then they had a completely fair question that would protect them from this evil along the way. He asked what kind of support package and missiles they would receive, and if they would be given nuclear weapons, he said they should be provided with them. He also questioned whether they would be given missiles in such a quantity that they could stop Russia.

What Kellogg says

According to Kellogg, we should not think that the United States is ready to agree to these conditions.

“The chance of them getting their nuclear weapons back is somewhere between slim and none. Let's be honest about it, we both know that's not going to happen,” Kellogg said.

He believes that rearming Ukraine with nuclear weapons is not an option.

“Remember, the president said we're a government of common sense. When somebody says something like that, look at the outcome or the potential. That's using your common sense,” the special representative said.

Kellogg to attend Munich conference

Kellogg will be attending the Munich Security Conference on February 14-16. There, he is likely to discuss with the allies the issue of ending the war in Ukraine.

In particular, Bloomberg cites sources as saying that Kellogg may present the Trump Administration's plan to end Russia's war against Ukraine during the conference.

Yesterday, sources in the Ukrainian President's Office told RBC-Ukraine that Kellogg would arrive in Ukraine after the Munich Security Conference, his visit is scheduled for February 20.
