US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz plans to speak today, March 19, with his counterparts in Russia and Ukraine regarding a ceasefire, according to SkyNews.

Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Waltz stated that he plans to discuss the steps leading to peace with representatives from Russia and Ukraine.

"Shuttle diplomacy is difficult, it's tough. But we are going back and forth at every level, driving both sides toward a ceasefire and toward the end of this war," the national security advisor said.

Trump-Putin negotiations

Waltz also shared details of what he called the "historic" conversation between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

When asked whether the Russian leader actually made Trump wait before starting the call, Waltz replied:
"Donald Trump does not sit and wait for an hour for any head of state."

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation yesterday, March 18. The main topic of discussion was ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

It was reported that as a result of the negotiations, Trump and Putin agreed on a ceasefire concerning energy and infrastructure targets. However, that same evening, Russian forces launched drones at Ukraine.

Later, Waltz revealed that during the talks, Trump and Putin touched on "many topics." In particular, they discussed the implementation of a possible ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, as well as a prisoner exchange.

At the same time, Waltz added that US authorities consider Putin a tough person and that Washington has no illusions about whom it is dealing with.
