US President Donald Trump no longer wants to strike Iran’s energy facilities after Israel attacked a key Iranian gas field on Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to sources, Trump, who knew in advance about Israel’s strike on the South Pars gas field, supported the attack as a signal to Iran regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Now, according to US officials, the President believes that Tehran has understood this signal, and therefore, Trump opposes new attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure.
At the same time, he may again be prepared to strike other targets, but everything will depend on Tehran's future actions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Middle East conflict
A day earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington was not yet ready to end its operation in Iran, but would do so in the near future.
He also publicly criticized Iran for blocking the Strait of Hormuz. He believes that the blockade of this strategically important waterway is unfair, since the US has already won the war against Iran.
According to Trump, the US received significant support from Middle Eastern countries in the context of this operation, but practically no support from NATO.
As early as March 18, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that alliance partners were discussing how to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key route for global oil exports.
