Trump makes another statement on Ukraine before meeting with Zelenskyy
Before his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US presidential candidate Donald Trump evaded answering whether he supports territorial concessions from Ukraine. He emphasized that peace must be achieved, The Guardian reports.
Journalists asked the US Republican presidential candidate whether Ukraine should give up territory to Russia to end the war, and Trump refused to answer.
At the same time, Trump emphasized the need to achieve peace in Ukraine and stop the deaths and destruction.
“Let’s get some peace … We need peace. We need to stop the death and destruction,” the Republican said.
Trump's running mate, US Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance, has previously suggested that Russia could retain the Ukrainian lands it occupies. He did not rule out the creation of a demilitarized zone with a fortified front line to prevent a new Russian invasion.
Trump's attitude to Ukraine
Donald Trump criticized Joe Biden's administration for increasing aid to Ukraine. He stated that military aid should be provided on credit, not as a gift.
He also repeatedly claimed that he would be able to end the war quickly. However, the Republican did not disclose his peace plan.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is currently on a visit to the United States, said he wanted to present Trump with a plan for Ukraine's victory. The meeting between the politicians was a question mark. Today, Trump announced that the meeting will take place.
