President of the USA, Donald Trump, considers Ukraine's NATO membership 'unlikely'. According to CBS News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs, Washington will continue providing aid to Ukraine but will change its nature.

During a press conference in the Oval Office, the White House chief responded that he was "ok with" removing Ukraine's NATO membership from the agenda but did not think it was practical.

He confirmed the statement by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who said that he considers Ukraine's membership in the Alliance unlikely or impractical.

"I think probably that's true," Trump said.

At the same time, he stated that the US will continue to provide aid to Ukraine but emphasized that "we want it secured."

Additionally, Trump believes that Putin wants peace. According to him, their phone conversation lasted an hour.

"I think I could say with great confidence: he wants to see it end," the US president said about the war in Ukraine.

Trump's talks with Putin

On Wednesday, February 12, Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The leaders discussed the war in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East, and agreed to organize a personal meeting.

According to media reports, Trump and Putin may meet in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called Ukraine’s NATO membership an unrealistic guarantee for ending the war.

In response, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that Ukraine wants and will become a member of the Alliance.
