Trump believes Russia has 'the cards' in negotiations regarding Ukraine

US President Donald Trump stated that Russia has "the cards" in negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, as Moscow has "taken a lot of territory", reports BBC.
The US president made this statement while flying back to Washington after speaking at an investment meeting in Florida.
"I think the Russians want to see the war end, I really do. I think they have the cards a little bit, because they've taken a lot of territory. They have the cards," Trump said.
When asked if he trusts that Russia wants peace, Trump said "I do".
BBC notes that Trump made this statement after being upset by the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who stated that the American leader "is living in this disinformation space controlled by Moscow."
Trump accused Zelenskyy of refusing to hold elections and expressed doubt about the trust of Ukrainians in him.
Trump - Zelenskyy conflict
After negotiations between US and Russian representatives in Saudi Arabia, US President Donald Trump claimed that the level of trust Ukrainians had in Volodymyr Zelenskyy was allegedly only 4%.
Zelenskyy pointed out that this information was coming from Russia and criticized Trump for repeating Russian disinformation. According to internal Ukrainian polls, the president's trust rating exceeds 50%.
In response to Zelenskyy's criticism, the US president called him a "dictator without elections."
Meanwhile, European leaders have expressed support for Zelenskyy in light of Trump's statements.
