US President Donald Trump plans to visit Kyiv, although he is unlikely to be allowed to do so before the war ends, the US leader made the remark during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Reporters asked the US leader whether he plans to visit Ukraine.
"I would, yes. I'd rather have the war be over. I'm not sure the secret service would be thrilled," Trump replied.
According to Trump, Kyiv is a beautiful city, and he hopes it will not remain scarred by the destruction caused by the war.
Trump's potential visit to Ukraine
On December 29 last year, Trump said he had no immediate plans to visit Ukraine but could make the trip if it would help bring the war closer to an end.
He also noted that he had been invited to address Ukraine's parliament.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would always welcome such a visit.
Notably, Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, have yet to visit Kyiv, despite making several trips to Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Recently, The New York Times reported, citing sources, that Kushner and Witkoff would travel to Ukraine only if new issues emerge for discussion as part of the peace process.
