US President Donald Trump plans to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today on the sidelines of the economic forum in Davos.

"I'm dealing with President Zelenskyy. I'm meeting him today. And I think he wants to make a deal. In doing it im helping Europe," Trump said.

Earlier, Zelenskyy said he would not travel to the Davos forum. These remarks came after another Russian strike on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Other statements by Trump

Trump also said that Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine would not have started if he had won the 2020 US presidential election. According to him, Ukraine is far from the US, separated from America and Europe by a "huge ocean."

He once again repeated claims of alleged fraud in the 2020 presidential election and said that those responsible should be held accountable.

Trump emphasized that he knows Russian President Vladimir Putin well and has communicated with him multiple times. According to Trump, Putin "constantly talks about Ukraine," but would not have dared a full-scale invasion if a different administration were in power in the US.

The US president also stated that the Joe Biden administration allocated about $350 billion to Ukraine and NATO. He stressed that after returning to office, he focused on resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as on domestic issues in the US, including the economy and border security.

In addition, Trump said that over the past year, he has been involved in mediating several international conflicts, including between India and Pakistan, as well as on the Armenia-Azerbaijan issue. He claimed that Putin allegedly expressed surprise at the speed of reaching these agreements.

Trump also questioned the benefits for the US of large-scale international aid, noting that many people in the world "do not appreciate what the United States does.

Dialogue between Ukraine and the US in Davos

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov said that the dialogue between Ukraine and the US will continue during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Donald Trump is expected to attend the event in person this time — last year, he participated online.

Earlier, media reports suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump could sign a postwar reconstruction agreement for Ukraine worth around $800 billion at the end of January.

According to sources, the signing of the document is planned specifically within the framework of the Davos forum. The agreement is designed for 10 years and provides for the country’s reconstruction after the war and the restart of the Ukrainian economy.

At the same time, on January 20, the special envoy of the Russian leader Kirill Dmitriev arrived in Davos for the first time since 2022 for meetings with US officials.
