Gas has not been supplied to the unrecognized region of Transnistria for several days now, according to NewsMaker.

The press service of the region’s self-proclaimed leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, said Transnistria has not received gas since Saturday, April 5.

“The interruption, caused by technical reasons, will last until April 8 or 9,” the statement reads.

However, sources in Moldova’s Ministry of Energy told NewsMaker that gas supplies had not been fully cut off. Instead, volumes were reduced due to a lack of prepayment for transit services carried out by Moldovagaz.

The supply volume was reportedly cut from 3 million cubic meters per day to 2.2 million, covering the period from April 9 to 22, due to the absence of prepayment.

Energy crisis in Moldova

Earlier this year, Transnistria faced an energy crisis after Ukraine halted the transit of Russian gas to Europe and Moldova starting January 1, 2025.

Ukraine had offered to help address the situation in Transnistria. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine could supply coal.

Additionally, Moldova and the authorities of the unrecognized region signed a gas loan agreement, under which Chisinau would lend 3 million cubic meters of natural gas to Tiraspol.

Moldova officially began gas deliveries under this loan agreement on February 1.

Krasnoselsky also stated that Transnistria would receive the gas needed to maintain operations through a loan funded by Russia.
